Visible Mending
Mending and darning, but visible please!
Visible mending, especially for knitwear
Our grandmothers were perfect at it. In the meantime, their skilful skills have often been forgotten. In Japan, England and the Scandinavian countries, it has long been hip to visibly darn and reuse and recycle garments. This is a self-confident way of showing that we are willing to wear repaired clothing. This type of darning (visible mending or darning) can be a lot of fun and let the imagination run wild. It also sets an example for the responsible use of textiles and against the mass consumption of cheap clothing.
We will learn to transform holes, worn areas or discolourations into small works of art in a colourful and skilful way using weaving, warp and wheat grain stitches.
After the course, you will be delighted with every hole in jumpers or shirts and will forgive the odd moth for its outrageous deed.
Also suitable for beginners, some embroidery experience is an advantage.
